From different IT needs to a shared target architecture
Public organisation with heterogeneous IT challenges.
Situation
A public organisation was facing several challenges within its technology environment. The participating units viewed needs, problems and priorities from different perspectives. As a result, there was no shared foundation for decisions concerning the future development of the system landscape.
Before further investment, the organisation needed to clarify: Which challenges actually existed? Which problems had the greatest effect on daily work? Which needs were shared across the participating units? How should the future technology landscape be aligned? Which measures were useful in the short term? Which topics required longer-term planning? Which roles and responsibilities needed clarification?
Approach
Hosang Consulting structured the shared analysis and target-architecture process. The contribution included: designing and facilitating focused workshops, gathering different business and technical perspectives, analysing and clearly describing the existing IT challenges, structuring needs, dependencies and priorities.
The contribution also included: developing a shared target architecture for the future system landscape, deriving concrete measures, creating a pragmatic implementation roadmap, supporting a shared understanding of roles, processes and system objectives, and accompanying the participants through the decision process.
Result
The organisation received a transparent decision-making foundation for further IT development. The joint work produced: an aligned understanding of the existing challenges, clear and traceable prioritisation, a shared target architecture, concrete and implementable next steps, a pragmatic implementation roadmap, and improved alignment between the participating units.
It provided a viable foundation for future investment decisions. In addition to content clarification, the work created new orientation for continued collaboration.
Transferable insight
An IT target architecture does not begin with a technology decision. It begins with a shared understanding of problems, priorities and responsibilities.
